Those of you who've visited my website before may have noticed a change at the top of the page identifying me as the "Author of Mysteries with a Meaning". If you're wondering what that refers to, you have only to read or reread HALIFAX to get what I'm talking about.
While reading about promoting my first novel, Jonathan Gunson of BestsellerLabs.com raised the question of what makes me different from other mystery writers. That gave me pause - panic if you want to know the truth. I didn't feel there was anything that set me apart from the others and consequently felt I had nothing to blog, much less brag about.
Then it hit me. Actually I was at the beauty salon having my hair cut and colored and reading more words of wisdom from Mr. Gunson's course. What makes me different is that my novels - the ones I've written as well as those to come - all treat a social issue with the hope of raising readers' consciousness in some way. That's not to say it's done with a heavy hand - its still fictional ride for the imagination, but who's to say we can't sprinkle a dab of social relevance along the way?
This blog will serve as a sounding board for the issues raised in each of my novels. I look forward to engaging with you on those matters. Welcome aboard. It will not always be a fun ride, but will hopefully be interesting.
