![]() For five years, my son, photojournalist Ben Mauch, dreamed of owning his own business. He considered every manner of ventures, but one by one he eliminated them and continued working as a TV cameraman for a Tampa station. Then one day he covered as story about a commercial kitchen near Naples, Florida and realized that was the type of business he wanted to own. I watched his journey from quitting a well-paying job and going to classes learning how to set up a business, to searching for a location, convincing the landlord to lease it to him, buying equipment and finally passing the state exams and inspections necessary to open. He's done all of that and more and is now open for business under the name, "Shared Kitchens of Tampa". And yes, I'm brimming with pride. I tell you all this not only to brag about my son's accomplishments, but to encourage you to follow your dreams no matter how outrageous they may seem. Think of it - Ben, who was a 13 year veteran of the nightly newscast decides to pitch it all and start his own business. A recipe for failure? You bet! Was I worried? Absolutely. But here we are, eight months later - a new business, a brand new entrepreneur following his dreams and one very proud mom! Don't let naysayers stop you. As they say, "build it and they will come".

![]() Yours truly and nearly a dozen local authors signed copies of their novels at the "Holiday Kickoff Author Books Signing" held Saturday, Nov. 22 at the newly renovated South Park Mall in Moline, Illinois. We had a good time visiting with friends, relatives, co-workers, fellow authors and meeting readers of our work. I was delighted to meet Joe Taylor, president/CEO of the Quad Cities Convention and Visitors Bureau who bought a copy of "The Waterkeeper's Daughter"! I have much for which to be thankful, not the least of which is the support you have given my writing endeavors. While a simple "thank you" is insufficient, it is the best I can do. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving! Paperback copies of "The Waterkeepers Daughter" have arrived - just in time for the holidays! Book signings will be held from 1-4 on Nov. 22 at the South Park Mall (JC Penney's Court) in Moline and from 11-1 at The Book Rack on Dec. 6 in Davenport and Dec. 7 in Moline. The ebook may be pre-ordered and will be released Nov. 25 on Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Let the celebrations begin! Leave me a message if you have questions - or just want to say "hi!"
